When choosing between Webflow and Squarespace, the key question is how much your site needs to grow. Webflow suits teams that need custom design, a structured CMS and room to grow. Squarespace suits small sites that need to launch fast from a template with little upkeep. We build on Webflow at Waves Creative, and below we say where Squarespace is the better choice. This article is for founders and marketing leads choosing a platform for a company marketing site. It does not cover ecommerce stores or other platforms. Our hands-on experience is with Webflow; Squarespace points come from its help pages, linked inline.

Use a simple growth-fit check: who designs the site, how much structured content it will hold, and who runs it after launch. If the answers point to a team and a growing site, lean toward Webflow.
Webflow suits growing companies and marketing teams that work with a designer or agency. It also suits sites with many pages, several languages or a regular content program. It earns its cost when you need custom layouts, when the site changes every month, and when you want conversion paths measured from launch day. Webflow takes more setup. In our Webflow builds, someone plans the structure, Collections and page templates before content goes in.
Squarespace suits solo founders, small service businesses, portfolios and simple sites run by one person. You pick a polished template, add your content and launch quickly. Maintenance stays light because the template makes most layout decisions for you. If you have no designer and no need for custom structure, Squarespace is the better choice. Its automatic sitemap and built-in structured data also leave fewer SEO settings to get wrong. You get a credible site without paying for a build you will not use.
Both platforms charge per site on a plan, but different things drive the cost. On Webflow, cost grows with the CMS, bandwidth, seats and languages. Basic does not include the CMS, so a site with a blog or case studies needs Premium, which costs more at higher bandwidth tiers. Collaborators add seats: Full seats cost $39 per month billed yearly ($45 monthly), and Limited seats for content editing cost $15 billed yearly ($19 monthly). Extra languages come through Localize, billed per locale, from $9 per locale per month billed yearly. See Webflow's pricing page. For example, a site with a blog, one marketer and one added language combines Premium (from $25 billed yearly), a Limited seat ($15) and Localize Essential ($9 per locale), plus a Full seat for the builder.
Squarespace's website plans are Basic, Core and Advanced. Paying annually saves up to 36% versus monthly billing and includes one year of free domain registration. Squarespace shows prices in local currency, so check its pricing page for your market.

Webflow lets a designer control structure, while Squarespace gives a non-designer guardrails. In Webflow you control layout, classes (style rules shared across elements) and reusable components, interactions and animation, and you can add custom code. The designer has to think in structure, much like a front-end developer, and because a class is shared, editing it changes every element that uses it.
Squarespace works from templates with guided styling. You adjust fonts, colors, spacing and sections inside limits the template sets. Those limits start to hurt when the brand needs a custom layout, a specific interaction or a page type the template did not plan for. For a non-designer, though, Squarespace is quicker and safer. The layout is hard to break, and most choices look reasonable by default.
Webflow's CMS handles structured content; Squarespace's is built for a simple blog. In Webflow you create CMS Collections, sets of similar items such as case studies, each with custom fields like industry, service and logo, and you link Collections through references. Premium includes 40 Collections and 20,000 CMS items. Marketers edit through the Content editor role (formerly Edit mode) on limited or client seats, which changes content without touching the design. It replaced the legacy Editor, which stopped being available on August 4, 2026 and was fully deprecated on October 5, 2026. Localization runs through Localize, billed per locale.
Squarespace is simpler for a basic blog, and editing is easy for a single user. Limits show up as a content program grows. Current plans allow up to 1,000 pages per site, with 400 recommended as a maximum. Multilingual sites rely on the Weglot integration, available only on version 7.1, or on a manual setup where built-in text shows in one language and per-language domains are not possible.
For SEO, both Squarespace and Webflow cover the technical basics, and Webflow gives finer control at scale. In Webflow you set meta titles and descriptions per page, bind them to CMS fields on Collection templates, set a canonical URL, manage 301 redirects and add structured data with custom code. Control matters when hundreds of pages share one template.
Squarespace covers the basics with less setup. It generates the sitemap automatically, and you cannot edit it. It adds structured data such as Blog post, Product and Organization schemas, which you cannot edit or remove. URL mappings support 301 and 302 redirects, up to roughly 2,500 lines.
Neither platform does the work that earns rankings. A person still has to match search intent, write useful content, plan internal links, map redirects and set up measurement, so sales can see which pages bring leads.
Both are hosted platforms, so you manage no servers and update no plugins. Webflow says its hosting combines AWS infrastructure with Cloudflare's global CDN, and every paid site plan includes free, auto-renewing SSL certificates (Webflow hosting). Its pricing page lists a 99.00% uptime SLA on the Team plan and 99.99% on Enterprise; these are annual-contract platform plans, separate from the Basic and Premium site plans in the table above. Squarespace runs the hosting for you and includes free SSL on all connected domains.
In practice, speed depends on how the site is built, not only on the platform. Oversized images, stacked third-party scripts and heavy video embeds slow pages on either one. Set image sizes and a script budget during the build, and test real pages before launch.
Both platforms support forms, embeds, and common analytics and tag manager setups through custom code. On Squarespace, custom code and tag managers require code injection, available on Core, Plus, Advanced and some legacy plans. The differences show up in CRM connections. Webflow's Marketplace has a HubSpot app that embeds HubSpot forms, maps Webflow form submissions and adds tracking without custom code. Salesforce has no official Webflow app: sites connect through third-party apps, Web-to-Lead forms or the APIs (Webflow on Salesforce). Pipedrive has no native app either, so you use its embeds, Zapier, Make or the APIs.
On Squarespace, each form needs a storage option such as Contacts, email, Google Drive, Mailchimp or Zapier. Squarespace states that Zapier connects forms to over 1,000 apps. On either platform, plan conversion events from the start: form submissions, demo requests, key clicks.
Moving between the platforms is a rebuild, not a copy, and layouts do not transfer in either direction. From Squarespace to Webflow, you export content, rebuild it in CMS Collections, recreate the design and map every old URL to a new one with 301 redirects. Squarespace's XML export includes layout pages and one blog page, but not product blocks, video blocks, drafts or custom CSS, and images cannot be exported in bulk. Moving from Webflow to Squarespace is also a rebuild, and large redirect lists must fit the URL mappings limit.
The main risks: lost rankings from missed redirects, broken forms and tracking, content gaps, and downtime during the DNS switch. Plan the redirect map and tracking before launch, not after.
| Criterion | Webflow | Squarespace |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing | Plan plus seats, CMS tier, bandwidth and locales | Three plans, annual billing saves up to 36% |
| Design freedom | Full control of layout, components, interactions, code | Template-led, safer for non-designers |
| CMS | Custom Collections, references, Content editor role | Simple blog, easy single-user editing |
| SEO | Fine control through CMS-driven templates | Basics automated, sitemap and schema not editable |
| Performance and hosting | Managed hosting on AWS and Cloudflare CDN | Managed hosting with free SSL |
| Integrations | HubSpot app, Salesforce and Pipedrive via third parties | Form storage options, Zapier to 1,000+ apps |
| Migration | Rebuild, plan 301 redirects early | Rebuild, limited export, redirect cap |
